Interesting Information Design
It’s the normal menu I found at the McDonald’s website.
With big and colorful pictures and clearly label numbers, you can easily read the menu and order your meal even though you might not understand the Chinese tittle. At the website, you can click on those burgers and view bigger picture and see those foods clearer.
Another interesting informaion design I found is also relate to McDonald’s. I found it at the Mc.Donalds USA. I found something call the ”McDonald’s Nutrition’s Fact for Popular Menu Item”. What does it do is that it shows you the size of the item, how many calorines, calories from fat, total fat, etc. It uses chart to represent every data and makes you easy to trace and look at. One thing bad about this list is that it dones’t show you the picture of the product, instead, it shows the name of the products. But it’s hard to recongnize the name of each items.

Has the World Become a Better Place?
This presentation discusses if our world become a better place or not by comparing the children per woman and the death rate in each countries for the past 50 years. The graph starts at 1962 and separates the world into two categories: industrialized countries and developing countires. In general, industrialized countries, such as United States, France, Romania, have death rate lower than 10% and each woman has less than four children. However, those developing countries, such as China, Iraq, Thailand, have death rate from 10% to 40% and each woman has four to eight children. After 1962, those developing countries gradually become industrialization countries by export bicycles, clothes, and shoes. While these countires become industrialized, their death rate dramatically drop to about 20% and each woman has less than seven children. At the end of the presentation, it foucus on one nation, which is Bangladesh, and specifically traces its death rate and children per woman to show us how our world becomes different. Best of all, you can click on those circles to see each countries’ death rate and children per woman.
This is a very interesting and amazing presentation that shows us how the world change over time. Overall, this is a very good presentation .The graph in very clear, easy to understand and Each continent has a color and each country is represent by a circle and the size of the circle is correspond to the population.

What I learn this quater
Great, I totally forget to write learning log since midterm.
However, I still remember what did I learn during past 3 monthes throught my homework diary.
First thing we start to learn is how to write a vignette. The first vignette was base on a room in my house and describe three people inside the room. Another vignette is use two pictures of people and one picture of place to create dialogues and setting for them and write a short vignette. It’s really difficult because you have to create everything yourself.
Second thing we do is the oral history. I interview my dad and ask for his overseas student life. It’s quite nervous while I was interview my father but it’s also intersting to know my father’s past. I doesn’t let him read my final draft because it’s kind of embarress to let him know what I write.
Another big assignment is the short story. This is so difficult because you really need to create everyhing. Luckly, I use a news to help me. This news is that a Japaness mother kills another kids because she thinks that this kid is compete with her child. I base on this story to write my story “Conscience”. It took me a long time because you will always get confuse by all characters you have and the personality you set.
Also, we learn a lot of gramma. We learn differnet phrases, pronoun, adjective, averb, object and direct object. These are so hard and I automatically bumb the gramma test. I can’t identify them when they are all in one sentence.
We also learn a lot of prefix, base world and suffix. They are quite helpful when you need to identify a word you don’t know. But they are all too similar and it’s hard to memorize.
I finish all my honor assignment! God, I read 3 books and write 4 essays!
And we have our newsletter published! It’s really tired to write those newsletter articles because you need yo know what you are going to write and they have to be intersting. And being a publisher is not an east job because I need to learn how to use microsoft publisher.
We watch a movie at the end of the sememster. This movie is quite good and intersting. It’s meaningful and have many thing we can discuss. However, it’s easy to write a drama analysis because it has many themes and details we can discuss.
Seventh Week Learning Log (10/15~10/19)
We started another new topic of essay-oral history essay. I was confused when I heard this essay and I had no idea what should this essay look like and write about. I started with the wrong direction and wrong questions but I corrected those questions and the direction afterward.
Abstract and concrete nouns make me crazy! Although it should be an easy part of the grammer, but I made a lot of mistake on the homework.
Sixth Week Learning Log
We worked on our newletter this week,too. We were really out of time and it’s really not easy to write an article about things happen around us because you need to observe the issue deeply. Therefore, we all wrote an article and it took me another long time to think of a topic.
Luckly, I am a member of the student countil and every student council meeting discuss somethin interesting and we always have the chance to get the first hand information from the office =D Publish the newsletter!! I can’t wait for it!
Fifth Week Learning Log (10/1~10/5)
We practiced more exercises anbout capitalization this week. And we had a test on the capitalization and other thing that we covered in the class so far. But i dramatically failed the test because I forgot to make correction!! Oh my god, it’s terrible.
Another thing we did is we wrote a college application essay. It took me a long time to think of a topic. And i knew the tone I used in the college application essay is different from the tone i used in an reflective essay. It really took a lot of time and brain to think of the language I should used.
Fourth Week Learning Log (9/24~9/28)
We only had 2 classes this week =D
We finished the presentation this week and overall, mine group did a great job but the information our powerpoint contained was not enought.
We discussed our newletters this week and hope we can published our first newsletter soon! (p.s: today is 10/30, we still haven’t publish our first newsletter)
Third Week Learning Log (9/17~9/21)
After wrote a reflective essay, we started another project. My group was to research Babylon. The internet information is really complicated and it’s too much detail. Therefore i had a hard time of condense the information and find useble information. Overall, we did a great group work and we all shared job equally.
Base words! We learned more base words! Also I started to forget previous baseword =(
